Artwork can be provided in a number of ways but the most common is to supply a digital graphics file. Digital files are ideal because they allow for more control and flexibility and guarantee the best imprint quality possible. Flexibility is very important because more often than not, your artwork will need to be adjusted in order to print properly on the large variety of products available.

Because artwork can be supplied in a variety of formats, we have grouped our artwork recommendations under three categories: BEST, ACCEPTABLE and NOT ACCEPTABLE. (Note: the listed graphic standards are for imprinted graphics. Embroidery digitizing uses a different set of standards. To inquire about required artwork for digitizing, please contact Creative Services.)

"Best" graphics should be acceptable for any application.

MAC / PC Applications:
· Adobe Illustrator CS3 or earlier with no placed images and with text converted to outlines (or supplied fonts for MAC only)
· EPS files (in vector format only)
· Adobe PhotoShop CS3 or earlier for 4-color process art only (please contact Creative Services to determine the correct resolution)

"Acceptable" graphics should be acceptable for most applications or, in most cases, can be easily converted to a "best" graphic. Please contact Creative Services if you are unsure of your "acceptable" art files.

MAC / PC Applications:
· Freehand MX or earlier with no placed images and with text converted to outlines (or supplied fonts for MAC only)
· Adobe InDesign CS3 (MAC) with supplied fonts
· QuarkXPress 6.0 with all supporting documents and fonts (please contact Creative Services before submitting)
· PDF files are sometimes acceptable but may not be editable

"Not acceptable" graphics cannot be reproduced for most applications and, generally, necessitate the recreation of your art as a digital vector file.

Non-graphic Applications:
· Microsoft Word, Corel and applications like Excel and PowerPoint are not graphic applications and cannot be used to generate artwork. Typically, a user will import a graphic into one of these applications. It is the imported graphic file that is usually required and should be listed in one of the above categories.
Bitmaps:
· Web image formats like GIF, JPG, TIFF, PICT, BMP and PNG are designed for computer screen use and not for print and are generally too low in resolution to be usable.
Photocopies and Stationery:
· Generally speaking, providing a fax, photocopy, letterhead, business card or any other printed material will more than likely involve the recreation of your logo to meet industry, and more specifically, HDS Marketing, Inc. graphic standards.
